Jan A. Bielinski … A visual metaphor for life
Jan A. Bielinski (*1954) is a Swiss photographer known for his black and white photography, with a particular focus on street and documentary photography. Bielinski lives in Zug and has devoted himself entirely to his passion for photography since retiring from the financial sector.
His works are characterised by a profound examination of urban living environments. He knows how to put seemingly ordinary everyday scenes in a new light, visualising both beauty and shortcomings. With his photographs, he manages to go beyond the boundaries of mere contrasts by adopting unusual perspectives and telling visual stories in the process. His camera becomes a tool for capturing the connection between the everyday and the extraordinary.
Bielinski’s work has been exhibited internationally, including in prestigious cities such as London, Moscow and Lucerne. His participation in the 2016 Photo Biennale in Moscow, curated by Olga Sviblova, Director of the Multi-Media Art Museum Moscow (MAMM), was particularly impressive. Sviblova described Bielinski’s work as a successful combination of portraits and architectural landscapes that not only capture moments in time, but also function as visual metaphors for the present. She praised his ability to preserve the historical memory of humanity through his photographs, creating a deeper understanding of the past, present and future.
Jan A. Bielinski’s photographs are more than just images – they invite us to pause, reflect and discover the stories behind each shot. With an eye for detail and a sense for the right moment, he captures the essence of urban life and offers his viewers a new perspective on the world.
