Taró Nordberg
Taró Nordberg is a renowned fourth-generation sumi-e painter and calligrapher from a prestigious calligraphy family in Kyoto, Japan. Inspired by his grandfather and uncles, whose works adorn important temples such as Kiyomizu and Fushimi Inari, these family roots still characterise his artistic work today.
In collaboration with Kobaien, a renowned ink manufacturer in Nara, Taró combines traditional heritage with innovative approaches. Born to a Japanese mother and a Swiss father, he combines Eastern and Western influences in his work, which he describes as ‘nouveau japonisme’.
His art reflects a deep connection to nature and music, inspired by the complexities of life and the ever-changing human spirit. ‘If time is music, then space is art,’ says Taró, ’I paint to create a balance between these elements and enrich our existence with precious moments.’
Taró’s work is internationally recognised for its unique fusion of traditional and contemporary elements. With deep respect for his cultural heritage, he creates art that is universally appealing and deeply personal.
